The reason I ask is Lester keeps telling me not to use hard water on certain things, and lately I've been teasing him alot about things he doesn't know or understand..so rather then asking him, and getting a huge load of payback coming my way, I thought I'd just ask you guys!

It has to do with the elements in the water. I can't remember what is in what. I think hard water has a metal element in it and soft water has something else. But the change in elements changes the properties of the water.
